Next week will mark a year since Senzo Meyiwa was shot & killed. A week before the anniversary of former the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain’s death, no arrests have been made. Meyiwa’s father Sam Meyiwa says he feels that police, and the entire justice system have let his family down.
Meyiwa was shot and killed while visiting his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo at her mother’s house in Vosloorus on the East Rand. According to witnesses on the scene Meyiwa was killed in a botched robbery.Monday will mark exactly one year since South Africa lost Meyiwa and still no arrests have been made.
Sam Meyiwa says the pain they’re going through as a family is unbearable and extremely painful because nothing is being done.
“The police are dragging their feet. So many people were in that house when my son was killed, I can’t deal with the stress anymore and sometimes I feel like conducting my own investigations.”
About a month after Meyiwa’s murder police arrested a man for the crime, but charges against him were withdrawn after prosecutors in court said there was not enough evidence. Police have then said they were close to making another arrest but that was four months ago. And so despite a large reward having been offered and assurances from police, the Meyiwa’s murder remains unsolved.
