Johannesburg – MTV shut down Sandton nightclub Taboo as they launched season 2 of the acclaimed Ridiculousness Africa this past week. Introducing new host Denise Zimba (formerly on Vuzu and Generations) as the presenter to replace Boity and Nigerian personality Ehizojia “Ehiz” Okoeguale to replace Nigerian comedian Basketmouth.
The event was filled with celebrities, radio djs and media alike to get an experience of what was coming on the show and were left laughing at the hilariousness of the show.
In attendance at the launch were familiar faces such as actor Matli Mohapeloa, comedian Tall Ass Mo, model Kim Jayde Robinson, actress Thuso Mbedu, actress Thuso Mbedu and Vice President at BET, Youth & Music for VIMN Africa Monde Twala. We took time to speak to some of them.
“Technology has opened the world to us and I think it’s important for brands like MTV and MTV Base to be the culture of the Global Market.” said Vice President at BET Monde Twala “The global brands have to localise because they have to be what the youth culture is all about, that is why Ridiculousness Africa is uniquely African in all aspects.”
“As you know the Ridiculousness Television Series has been running for so many seasons overseas and I am super excited that they have brought it Africa and it did so well that we having a season 2.” said successful Model and Presenter Kim Jayde Robinson ”We really excited to see all the local stars because as you know they have guests on the episodes. I think season 2 is going to interesting because they have switched around the hosts, so it will be interesting to see the new hosts.”
“I am really excited about the new season because I know that Denise is really crazy so am looking forward to her being the host.” said Actress Thuso Mbedu “The show is relevant with South African jokes that we get.”
“Local is always lekker but there’s nothing wrong with international shows coming to South Africa because of the opportunities presented to South Africans at the end of the day.” said famous actress Makgotso M “Either way when the shows are brought here we make them relevant to local audiences.”
The hosts of the Ridiculousness Africa season 2 are comedian and TV host, Thomas Gumede, actress Denise Zimba and comedian Basketmouth and airs weekly on MTV (DStv channel 130) from 8 June 2017 at 21:35 CAT.
