The sixteen fired Generations actors have threatened to take legal actions against the SABC and MMSV Productions if the drama-riddled soapie continues to air.
The “new” soapie, Generations: The Legacy, came onto Mzansi TV screens at the beginning of last month to a mixed reception.
SABC’s Kaizer Kganyago is adamant that the embattled actors have no leg to stand on in taking the broadcaster on: “We have always said the actors’ contracts are not with us but with MMSV. The fight between them happened. We tried to intervene but they didn’t reach an agreement,” he told the Daily Sun.
The actors are taking legal action following failure to reach an agreement for their royalties and syndication fees. “I think they were expecting more money,” Kganyago says.
Kganyago has also confirmed that the show would continue to air on SABC 1 as per agreement.
Bulelani Moyo of the Generations Actors Guild says the production company’s decision to “create a new show while the issue has not been resolved is an abuse of the contractual and contitutional rights of the actors.”
